Poppit Sands Beach

Highlight • Beach

At the mouth of the Teifi Estuary, Poppit Sands is a sandy beach backed by dunes. At low tide the full extent of sand appears to go almost to Gwbert on the other side. Don’t attempt a crossing, though, the currents are very strong and offer a one-way ticket to Ireland.

St Brynach's Church, Nevern

Highlight • Historical Site

Founded in 540 AD, St Brynach’s Church (or Nevern Church) is a fascinating and beautiful slice of history in this sweet hamlet. With a long and complex history, this church has seen many hundreds of years of social and religious upheaval and taking the time to wander around its open gardens makes for a very peaceful experience.

Its churchyard has stunning, gnarled yew trees which are thought to be up to 700 years old. One of the yew trees is known as the ‘Bleeding Yew’ as it seeps sap continuously for no known reason and the sap often looks red.

Nevern Church and Ancient Yew Trees

Highlight • Natural Monument

Nevern church is dedicated to the 6th century Saint Brynach from Ireland, who was said to have talked with angels on Carn Ingli, which means “Mountain of Angels”. Part of the current church building dates from about the 12th century, but the site is thought to be much older.
