Honey Cafe

Highlight • Cafe

Known by some as the first control on the Bryan Chapman Audax. Whether you're riding to Anglesey or not the Honey Cafe knows how to please a hungry cyclist! Tucked in away from the road there is plenty of space to leave a bike outside. Inside there is plenty of space and a varied menu. They are big enough to deal with groups of 20 or more but appreciate it if you call in advance!

Crickhowell Bridge

Highlight • River

Crickhowell bridge is a pretty crossing point of the River Usk.

Crickhowell itself is a small market town with the remains of a motte and bailey castle built by the Normans.

Gilwern Halt Railway Station Ruins

Here are the remains of the Gilwern Halt railway station on the now abandoned Merthyr, Tredegar and Abergavenny railway. Two platforms and a bridge including stairs are left and can be visited via the cycle path #46.

The Tumble Climb from Govilon

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Nice long climb with a few steep sections. At the top it opens up to stunning views and a fantastic descent.

A word of warning though don't start out too hard as it's longer and steeper than it looks. However perfectly doable for most cyclists and worth it for the satisfaction and views at the top.

Smooth path, great views down the valley and only a few walkers on a bright Sunday morning.

Beaufort Hill Ponds & Woodlands

An amazing view point and almost alpine descent. Ride over the top of the moors from the mining valleys and see the amazing green of the Brecon Beacons below. You can see the lakes and hills stretching out in front of you and then drop down into the landscape at breakneck speed! Good road surface and some switchbacks make for a fun time descending. You can climb up it of course but remember to look behind you to catch the view.

Stop in this little cafe all the time when I am hiking or biking. In fact I think I have invested enough in the place to have a shares dividend, especially the amount of chocolate flap jacks I have bought here! If the place is full have a seat in the bus shelter across the road, it has its own library!

This is a super nice stretch of road with grand views out over the Wye Valley and over towards Hay Bluff. This is also a quiet stretch of road too.
