Great wild moorland road between Tarn Moor and Ravenstonedale Moor in north-eastern Cumbria.
The road runs from Orton in the west over the moor and down to the junction for Great Asby in the north-east or Soulby to the south-east.
Wonderful views from the road north over Great Asby Scar or south across Sunbiggin Tarn and towards the Howgills. The Lake District is also visible to the west, on the other side of the M6.
This route follows national cycle route 68.

Sunbiggin Tarn

Highlight • Natural Monument

This tarn and, in fact, the surrounding area, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI): this is largely because of the limestone areas that surround it. The tarn is a marl lake, with lots of ferns around it. A beautiful place with a rugged feel to the area.
