Kinder Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

Kinder Reservoir was built between 1903 and 1911, it's fed by the River Kinder and several smaller streams. The trail around the western side is a great run and gives access to the higher trails around the Kinder Downfall and off up Black Ashop Moor.

William Clough Path

Highlight • Gorge

The William Clough path is named after a cutler who worked here. Look for signs of iron smelting underfoot. During the 1932 mass trespass, the ramblers left the path which was originally higher up the slope and became embroiled in scuffles with gamekeepers and water bailiffs.

View of Mill Hill (Ashop Head)

Highlight • Natural

This area was badly damaged by fire in 2003; peat moorland is a high fire risk after long spells of dry weather. Along the plateau you can admire views over Yorkshire to the north, Cheshire to the west and Wales beyond. In July and August, the landscape bursts into colour with flowering heather.

Kinder Downfall

Highlight • Natural Monument

Kinder Downfall is the highest waterfall in the Peak District and is unusual in that during periods of strong wind it can be blown upwards! On a clear day it's a spectacular sight. Take care when approaching the edge of the waterfall as it's a long way down!

Kinder Low Trig Point

Highlight • Summit

Kinder Low trig is found on the plateau of Kinder Scout. This spot is very popular with hikers as it boasts wonderful views and is visited by many iconic trails, including the Pennine Way. Many people mistakenly believe that this trig pillar marks the summit of Kinder Scout, however, the true summit actually lies northeast.

Kinder Low Trig Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

I personally wouldn't go around Kinderscout if its had rain. The Peat bogs can be dangerous

Hayfield Descent

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Together with Coldwell Clough, this descent is more than a mile of fast and fun downhill riding taking you back down to Hayfield. Rocks and stones give way to soil (mud) as you finish in Elle Bank Wood and on to Valley Road alongside the river.
