Cod Beck Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Picturesque and smooth sounding.

Lovely spot for a break directly next to the footpath with a good view over the Vale of Mowbray.
Beware sometimes there is cattle.

View from Swinestye Hill

Highlight • Forest

Beautiful views over South Wood from Swinestye Hill (even if its name does not evoke beauty and aesthetics!) - on a clear sunny day, you can see all the way to Yorkshire Dales from here.

View from Beacon Hill Summit

Highlight • Viewpoint

Fantastic, far-reaching views over Arncliffe Wood to one side, and over Scarth Wood Moor to the other from here.

Scarth Wood Moor

Highlight • Natural

Great views from the top of the moor and several footpaths and bridleways to route from, including through Arncliffe Wood. There is a path that drops directly down from Beacon Hill to the car parks at Cod Beck reservoir, bit soggy in places by easily navigable.

Tip by

7.40 km

Fairly unobtrusive stone post, only a few yards off the road. This is the western Lyke Wake Stone, which is an acceptable end/start point for the Lyke Wake Walk, although not the original one, which is the trig point on Scarth Wood Moor.

A varied route around Osmotherley , big views towards the coast and the dales. Plenty of pubs in the village all good and an excellent cafe .
