St Mawes is a small fishing village accessible either by road from the north or from the west by ferry from Falmouth.

There is a harbour, steep and narrow lanes plus cafes, pubs and restaurants. St Mawes' has two beaches and a castle which keeps watch over Carrick Roads, Falmouth Estuary.

King Harry Ferry

The King Harry Ferry has been carrying passengers from St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Feock, Truro and Falmouth since 1888. The ferry, which is one of only five chain ferries in England, operates every 20 minutes daily and takes 7 minutes. It is also good for the planet as it carries over 300,000 cars every year, saving around 1.7 million kg of CO2! Tickets for cyclists cost £1 each way. St Mawes Castle

St Mawes Castle is one of the best-preserved coastal fortresses built by Henry VIII between 1539 and 1545 to defend against an invasion threat from Catholic France and Spain. The most elaborately decorated of the chain of forts, St Mawes Castle guarded the important anchorage of Carrick Roads along with Pendennis Castle on the other side of the Fal estuary.
