Frohnsdorf Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Memorial stone on the street in front of the church/cemetery

This church was built from 1837-1839 in the classicist style. The builder was Mr. Späthe from Langenleuba-Niederhain. Inside the church there is a very beautiful baptismal font made of marble. The organ was installed in 1839 by G.M. Böhme from Zeitz. The beautiful crucifix on the altar was carved by Mr. Gleitsmann from Langenleuba-Niederhain. The bells had to be replaced after both the First World War in 1925 and the Second World War in 1950. The church tower and the outer facade were renovated in 1993-1994. In 2000/2002 the organ was given a general overhaul and the organ facade was installed.

The historic market square with the town hall built in 1731 and the narrow streets together with the church of St. Bartholomew shape the town center and its towers the striking silhouette. Not far from the church stands the former Princely Schönburgische Lehrerseminar, founded in 1844 by Prince Otto Viktor I. von Schönburg-Waldenburg

Waldenburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle complex has its origins in a castle that was built as a base for the colonization of the Pleißenland between 1165 and 1172. From this founding phase, the lower part of the keep, made of dark humpback blocks, has been preserved to this day.
In connection with the Civil Revolution, the Renaissance castle was looted and completely burned down by angry demonstrators on April 5, 1848.
