Highlight • Rest Area

Traditions include the markets where local residents offer their produce for sale.
The most important market for agricultural products is the Zibinsmarkt/Piaţa Cibin in the lower town. It has around 300 sales points for fruit and vegetables, but Sibiu residents and tourists can also buy meat and the famous sheep's cheese here.

Stadionul Municipal Sibiu

Highlight • Rest Area

The Stadionul Municipal is a multipurpose arena in the Romanian city of Sibiu.

In 1927 Terenul Sportiv O.N.E.F. (playing field dimensions: 68 × 110 meters) built. A tournament was played to raise further money for the completion of this new sports field. The games took place on June 12, 1927 and had the following outcome: HTV - NSE 3:2 (3:0) and Șoimii Sibiu - Aviația Mediaș 4:2 (2:2). From that point on, Terenul Sportiv was O.N.E.F. intended as the sole venue for the football matches in Sibiu and for the official field handball matches, leading to some confusion in the recognition of match results in the 1927/28 season. Over the years, the stadium has been modernized and renamed several times, first to Metalul and later to Șoimii. From 1977 to 1981 it was rebuilt and enlarged to 12,000 spectators, in 1982 a new grandstand was built. Due to the promotion of FC Hermannstadt, the stadium has been renewed since May 2018 and expanded to 14,200 seats to meet the League 1 conditions. In addition to the service area of the main grandstand, there is a 400-meter running track, an electronic scoreboard and a stadium-owned park to the west of the circle in front of the grandstand.

After the Second World War, the stadium was the home of the second division club CSM Sibiu and its successor club Şoimii Sibiu for many years. This was relegated to Divizia C in 1986 and made way for FC Inter Sibiu, a newcomer to Divizia B. FC Inter played in Divizia A, the country's highest football division, from 1988 to 1996 before four more seasons in Divizia B until its dissolution in November 2000. From 2003 until its dissolution in 2007, the second division club FC Sibiu used the stadium. From 2009 to 2012, the CSU Voinţa Sibiu played here, which made it into League 1 in 2011 and was dissolved in 2012. FC Hermannstadt has been playing its home games at the Stadionul Municipal since 2015.

In July 2010, the stadium was released for the use of premier league games. This allowed it to serve as a home ground for first division club Gaz Metan Mediaş in the 2010/11 season, whose stadium was undergoing renovations.

The Romanian national football team has played three international friendly matches at the Stadionul Municipal: on March 27, 1985 against Poland (0-0), on November 23, 1988 against Israel (3-0) and on March 29, 1989 against Italy (1-0). .

Super great restaurant near the new stadium. Food 10 out of 10. Service very attentive, but unfortunately not enough space when it's full. Fully booked every evening, so call and make a reservation as soon as possible.

Carpenters' Tower

Highlight • Monument

The Carpenter's Tower (Turnul Dulgherilor) dates back to 1357-1366, when the third ring of fortifications of the city was built. It was built by the local Saxon guild of carpenters. It is the northernmost of the three towers on Cetății Street. Over time, this tower has undergone a number of repairs and reconstructions. The current shape of the tower probably dates back to the early 16th century. The Carpenter's Tower was restored between 1967 and 1972 and again in 2007. It has a circular shape at the base. It then takes the shape of an octagonal prism, which is topped by the classic protruding part.

The Thick Tower

Highlight • Monument

The Thick Tower (Turnul Gros) was built around 1540 as part of the city's fortifications. By that time, the Ottoman threat had increased, so their defense system was reinforced with bastions that could also carry artillery pieces. Cannons were placed on the platform of the Thick Tower to fire at attackers. With its semicircular shape (similar to the letter U), the tower protrudes about 25 meters above the city's outer wall. The city's first theater was set up in the tower building in 1788, founded by the printer Martin Hochmeister. Theater performances were held here until 1949. After a fire, the "Independenta" factory club was installed on the tower's platform. Since 2004, the Thalia Hall of the Sibiu State Philharmonic Orchestra has been located here.
