Waterfront Trail at Queens Quay and Stadium Road

Highlight • Cycleway

Maybe calling this a Highlight is a stretch, but I quite enjoyed sitting on one of the big rocks here and watching hundreds of bike commuters roll by while I waited for my friend to arrive. And I'm old enough to remember when there were no bike lanes here, so I like to take a moment and appreciate them. There's also a picnic table and a grassy park area.

Short route along the marina with a view of the boats and Billy Bishop Airport.

Located just outside of the tourist highlights, you can have a great view eastwards towards the city center from here. It's also much quieter here.

Toronto has been revitalizing its waterfront and it shows! The freshly paved trail runs between the lake and this pretty little park. There are lots of new benches and Muskoka chairs under shade trees where people can relax. And the view of the lake and shoreline is lovely.

Marilyn Bell Park Boardwalk

Highlight • Trail

Marilyn Bell Park is part of a long chain of parks along the western waterfront and includes part of the Martin-Goodman/Waterfront Trail. The Park is named after Marilyn Bell, a local Toronto girl who was the first person to swim across Lake Ontario. She was only sixteen at the time and she made the 52 km swim in 20 hours and 59 minutes. The Park was dedicated to her on the 30th anniversary of her swim in 1984. Marilyn Bell park has a beautiful boardwalk along the lake shore, tennis courts, biking and walking trails and is a lovely spot for a picnic.

Sunnyside Pool

Highlight • Rest Area

This large outdoor pool is extremely popular with Torontonians. You may have to line up for a bit to get in (lifeguards control the numbers so it doesn't get dangerously crowded), but often the line moves faster than you'd expect. It's a great place to stop for a swim after a hot bike ride! Of course, there's always the nearby beach as well.

Sunnyside Beach

Highlight • Beach

Traveling on Martin Goodman trail, heading west after the downtown and harbour-front you will come across this beautiful stretch of sandy beaches. They are protected from the open water by the wall so water is calm and warm. Also very popular for kayaking or standup boarding.
If you don't fancy lake swimming you can instead use close-by pool.
Swans, geese and ducks are regular visitors.

Humber Bay Arch Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

This gorgeous pedestrian/bike bridge is part of the Martin Goodman Trail along Toronto's lakeshore. It's a popular place for people to stop and take photos, and just hang out for a while enjoying the view.
