Hermsdorf Town Hall

There is evidence of Hermsdorf from the year 1173. At a secret court meeting, which, given the circumstances, could only have taken place in the later inn "Zum Schwarzen Bär" in 1173, Emperor Frederick I ("Barbarossa") deposed the King of Bohemia from his position.

Hermsdorf was also mentioned in documents in 1256.

From 1920, it belonged to the Free State of Thuringia.

Industrial development began with the construction of the Weimar-Gera railway line in 1872/76.

The construction of the motorway junction of today's A9 and A4 motorways in the 1930s brought further improvements to the infrastructure.
