Fridolinhaus

Highlight • Monument

Fridolin Hoffmann (1869-1953) opened a shop here in 1891 selling "colonial goods and supplies," which developed into a department store with a diverse range of products. He held numerous honorary positions in Rodach, was a highly respected citizen, founder of the Fridolin's (music) band, and chairman of the veterans' association. He demonstratively resigned from the association in 1933 when its conversion to a Nazi-era association structure was decided. Fridolin Hoffmann had no direct descendants. Instead, he left behind this beautiful house, which he had lovingly tinkered with throughout his life, in every conceivable architectural style. He thus created a kind of castle – the "Fridolin House" – true to the English motto "my home is my castle." A four-line inscription above the richly decorated balcony facing the street summarizes the Fridolin House and its eventful history.
