Lopausee spillway

Highlight • Waterfall

The dam is located right at the beginning of the tour from the 'Auf der kalten Hude' parking lot at the underpass of Lüneburger Straße. The sound of the rushing water is very pleasant. There are several seats where you can listen to the rushing sound, which is very relaxing. A visit is highly recommended 👍.

Schwindebach Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

With 60l / sec the second strongest source in Lower Saxony. Here you can really watch how the water comes from the ground. In addition, a very nice play of colors.

Gut Thansen

Highlight • Historical Site

At the beginning of the 1930s, the Hamburg businessman Alfred C. Toepfer acquired the Thansen farm with a total of 600 hectares of land. From 1933 to 1935, he had the farm, which had been built in the last century, rebuilt and expanded by the Bardowick architect L. von der Berg. With the exception of the thatched sheep barn with clay walls, which is estimated to have been built in 1790, and the house built around 1890, all of the buildings had fallen into disrepair, some had burned down or no longer existed.

Toepfer had the idea of a Lower Saxony farm that should be built tastefully and artistically, but not "artificially". The diversely designed masonry of the large barn and the horse stable testifies to the realization of this concept. Just as impressive are the artistically designed corner and center posts of the carriage house, the door locks of the house, the gate bolts on the horse stable and also the row of "farm workers' houses" that adjoin the farmyard towards Rehrhof.
The courtyard ensemble of the main farm, arranged in a circle, can therefore be classified as unique in northern Germany. The two newer buildings, the former chicken coop and the potato barn, both located a little way off, date from 1955 and were built with more practical considerations in mind.
