The royal tombs of Haaßel are monuments from the Neolithic period, the 3rd millennium BC. The extensive distribution area of the megalithic tombs, with its numerous local groups, ranges from the Mediterranean region across coastal areas of Western Europe to Northern Germany and Southern Scandinavia. The ideas that underpinned the construction of the megalithic tombs must have spread across the sea and along the coast.

Of the once numerous megalithic tombs (in the district of Uelzen, there were still over 200 in 1846), only a few have survived. The three Haaßel tombs are the last remnants of 36 such structures that lined up in a wide arc. A break or rest here is worthwhile.
