Mariabuchen is a pilgrimage church near Lohr, the foundation of which dates back to a chapel from 1434. According to legend, a shepherd boy placed a figure of the Virgin Mary in a knothole in a beech tree. After an "infidel" rammed his sword into the beech tree and was unable to move afterwards, the beech tree was felled and the bleeding figure of Mary was found inside.

Today the church, which is located in the romantic Buchental, is a popular place for excursions and pilgrimages. There are three places to stop for hungry hikers right next to the monastery: the Waldrast, the Buchenstüble and the Buchenmühle.
