St. Mary's Church Basthorst

Highlight • Religious Site

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Mary's Church in Basthorst bears the name of the Virgin Mary and was formerly a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Holy Body; significant annual fairs were held there twice a year.

The old St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1319, but it was demolished in 1856 due to its dilapidated condition.

The current church was redesigned and built between 1857 and 1859 with considerable financial contributions from the estate and the four villages belonging to the parish.

The church is a single-nave, neo-Gothic fieldstone church with a recessed five-eighths chancel made of brick and a 43-meter-high west tower topped with a pointed spire, which is visible from all sides. The nave features five wooden rib vaults and a pointed chancel arch.

Pirsch-Mühle Restaurant Hamfelde

Highlight • Restaurant

The Pirsch mill is a so-called Dutch mill built in 1876. Until 1954 the grain of the surrounding farmers was still ground.
The Pirsch-Mühle stands on historical ground. In the Prussian-Danish War of 1864 the Austrians fought alongside the Prussians under the leadership of Major von der Thann. After the victory of the Austro-Prussian Army, the Treaty of Gastein (1865) laid down the division of the conquered territories. The Prussians received the Duchy of Schleswig, the Austrians the Duchy of Holstein. Austria ceded its rights to the King of Prussia against payment of 2.5 million Danish thalers.

The Austrian rule then rested (at least in the Pirsch-Mühle) until 1996. In that year, the Austrian master chef Siegmund Leypold and his wife took over the Pirsch-Mühle, which had meanwhile been converted into a restaurant, and subjected it to a thorough renovation. This maintenance and renewal work will continue to the present and probably also in the future. For the benefit of the guests.
Today the Pirsch-Mühle is run as a cozy restaurant with a special focus on fine alpine cuisine. The Pirsch-Mühle has earned an excellent reputation as a stylish setting for more than 1,000 weddings. But the Pirsch-Mühle is also the location of choice for other family and official occasions.

Hamfelde Mill Pond

Highlight • Lake

An idyllic pond with lots of yellow water lilies. There is a nice trail around the pond with great views of the water. The path is a hiking trail or a MTB route - rather not recommended for a normal bike.

Waldeslust Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

With the Gasthof Waldeslust you can always lure me to climb the nearby Hanhneider Berg. After a hiking day, the innkeepers mainly offer venison with venison, wild boar and even wild duck. Highly Recommended!

Trittau Water Mill

Highlight • Monument

In the heart of Trittau's historic center, bordering the Hahnheide nature reserve, lies the watermill with its millpond. It is Trittau's landmark and is now used as a cultural center.

The current mill building was constructed in 1701, but a water-powered grain mill has been documented at this location since the 16th century. However, the mill site itself is much older. Shortly after Trittau Castle was built in 1327, the mills surrounding the castle were likely constructed as well. These included the water-powered grain mill and a sawmill,
which no longer exists.

The mill ceased operation in 1963. Until 1973, the Stoltenberg company ran an agricultural supply business here, after which the municipality of Trittau acquired the building. In 1976, the mill was listed as a cultural monument.

300-Year-Old Winter Linden at Grander Mühle

Highlight • Natural Monument

Right next to the historic Grander Mill stands the mighty winter linden tree, which is already over 300 years old. A plaque provides information about its fate so far and that of the mill, which is now a listed building.
Stay a while and look at it, because you rarely see such a natural, wide crown on a linden tree, because the trees along the roads are regularly severely pruned.
It could even live to be 1000 years old, although it has already been struck by lightning once and the wound may never fully heal. Hopefully it will stand here for many more years, perhaps even centuries, so that our children and grandchildren can still enjoy it.

The European long-distance hiking trail E1, which actually goes right past it, has unfortunately been closed for some time, so you can't get past it and have to take a small detour across the road.

Grander Mill (watermill)

Highlight • Monument

The Discovery of Slowness...

The Grander Mill is a secluded gem nestled in the countryside.

A country retreat for individualists with an elegant, rustic ambiance.

The restaurant offers unpretentious, authentic Italian cuisine in the Grander Mill's cozy "il caminetto" (window).

Behind the beautiful half-timbered facade with its countless mullioned windows, a blend of different stylistic periods awaits. The furniture is lovingly collected from abroad or crafted according to antique designs. Lamps from Italy, fabrics and tableware from France, and traditional craftsmanship from Northern Germany and Denmark.

In the mornings, guests are treated to an imaginative, lord-of-the-manor-style breakfast buffet with many small delicacies in the opulently decorated barn. Wooden beams, white linen, mirrored walls, acrylic lamps, and chandeliers create a contrast between history and modernity. A stage for enjoyment and sensory delights, the breakfast buffet is also available until noon upon request, weather permitting, right outside the door or somewhere in the garden.
