However, the orientation to the west prevails. Despite the fact that Mechow is a small and “quiet” village, it has a very good infrastructure. The district town of Ratzeburg is less than 2 km away and can therefore also be reached quickly by bike, and the A 20 is also easily accessible via MV in a short time. The children therefore attend the joint kindergarten in Bäk or go to school in Ratzeburg. Regular bus transport also ensures a safe journey to school.

Im Laufe der Jahre wurden etliche landwirtschaftliche Bauten errichtet. Eine Getreidelagerhalle, eine große Mehrzweckhalle sowie eine Getreidetrocknungshalle. Vor dem Haupthaus liegt ein Rondell, das mit Rosen eingefasst ist.
Dass der kleine Park des ländlichen Gutes nicht axial auf das Gebäudeensemble ausgerichtet ist, sondern auf einer kleinen Anhöhe nördlich liegt und sich seine Lage somit am Verlauf des Bachtales der Bäk orientiert, verweist auf seine Enstehungszeit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts. Durch ein hölzernes Tor betritt man den Hauptgang in den Garten, der von einer ausgewachsenen Hainbuchenhecke begleitet wird und in den zentralen Obstgartenteil führt, wo noch einzelne Exemplare von Apfel, Birne, Kirsche und Pflaume blühen.
Der L-förmig an den Außenseiten des Gartens gelegene Gartenbereich beherbergt ein kleines Arboretum. Typische Vertreter dieser kleinen Arboreten des 19. Jahrhunderts sind Traueresche, Kastanie, Robinie, Blutbuche und Platane, sowie als Besonderheit noch ein Tulpenbaum, eine nordamerikanische Hickorynuss, sowie als jüngster Exot eine Araukarie. Besonders prächtig erhaltene Solitäre sind eine Esskastanie, eine sog. Siegeseiche (gepflanzt 1871) sowie die drei erhaltenen, aber ausgewachsene Lindenlauben, die im Norden und im Westen die Endpunkte der ehemaligen Gartenwege bildeten.
Den verbliebenen Gebäuden der Gutsanlage Mechow kommt zusammen mit dem kleinen ländlichen Gutspark eine besondere historische und kulturlandschaftprägende Bedeutung zu. Auf früher mecklenburgischen, heute schleswig-holsteinischem Territorium lässt sich die Formensprache der gesamten Gutsanlage in die Tradition der preussischen, frühklassizistischen Landbauschule einordnen, wie sie von dem Baumeister David Gilly (1748-1808) begründet wurde.
