Reesenbütteler Pond

Highlight • Lake

The Ammersbek lowland is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Ammersbek and the city of Ahrensburg in the Stormarn district.

The approximately 349 hectare nature reserve was designated in 2002. Part of the nature reserve in the north is part of the FFH area "Hansdorfer Brook with Ammersbek".
The nature reserve is located northwest of Ahrensburg on the state border with Hamburg. It borders the “Wohldorfer Wald” nature reserve in the west and the “Duvenstedter Brook” and “Hansdorfer Brook” nature reserves in the north. Furthermore, it borders on the landscape protection area "Wohldorf / Ohlstedt" in the west and on the landscape protection area "Ammersbeck" in the south and north.

The nature reserve includes the upper reaches of the Ammersbek, a tributary of the Alster, with the spring streams Bunsbach and Hunnau and Aue (also known as Bünningstedter Aue), its lowlands and the adjacent areas with broken forests and riparian forest remains, swelly wet grassland, kinks and fields, fields, Fallow as well as the Reesenbüttel pond near Ahrensburg. The Ammersbek valley lies in a glacial channel in the transition between the young moraine and the glacial basin. It presents itself as a semi-open landscape. In many cases, the rivers are still meandering.

Heimgartenweg

Highlight • Cycleway

Mobility Corridor: Heimgartenweg is listed as an important connection (e.g., part of Route 3) in the official cycling concept and the cycle route plan of the city of Ahrensburg.

Steinkamp Connection: It connects directly to the Steinkamp network of paths and provides a low-traffic alternative to main roads such as Reesenbüttler Redder.

Ahrensburg Campus: The area is currently undergoing significant development. The new school center at Heimgarten (an investment of approximately €115 million) is slated for completion of the entire campus by around 2031, with cycling infrastructure (e.g., bicycle parking and safe pathways) playing a central role. The city of Ahrensburg provides up-to-date information on the construction progress.
