The Granetalsperre, built in 1969, is the youngest of the Harz dams and was built in the Granetal. Since the river Grane itself did not carry enough water for the 3 km long lake, an approx. 7.4 km long tunnel to the Oker was created below the Oker dam. This also takes in water from the Gose on the way. Another 4.8 km long tunnel leads from the Radau to the Großer Romke and thus also into the Oker-Grane tunnel. There is also an underground connection to the Innerste Reservoir.

December 22, 2025,GOSLAR Steinbergturm & Granestausee HWN 110 & 111
We chose this easy circular route as our first hike with our young dog. The trail follows wide, paved paths and is certainly manageable with children and a stroller.

As an alternative starting point, you can also use the larger parking lot "Unter den Eichen" (Under the Oaks) opposite the lovely children's playground. The inn is also easily accessible from …

From the parking lot, a short footpath leads to the Steinberg Alm, where you can stamp the 111. Actually, the stamping point is at the Steinberg Tower, so this time we hike there and simply stamp again under the special stamp 😁 But it's much more worthwhile to come for the tower itself and the view.
Afterwards, we hike back …

It starts at the Steinberg Alm. When you start, pay attention to the right-hand side. There is a cave here, somewhat hidden. But you can't get in. At the reservoir there is a sensational view over the water.

On the day of departure, of course, a final round must be done again🥾👍🏻

So off you go. PP Unter den Eichen and the first direction Steinberg♜

And whoops, I was already irritated. On the way you pass an inn and there was the HWN 111🤔
Hmmmm... and where is the ♜?

Today we went to the Granetalsperre and up in the air. Pick up HWN 110 and HWN 111. At the special point "Forest for tomorrow" we even had a small visitor

Since the weather isn't supposed to be great tomorrow, we still really feel like it today after the first tour.
We park near the Steinbergalm and are a bit surprised to find that it is much warmer here, almost hot.
A real surprise follows at the Steinbergalm: Here is a second stamp box of the 111! We stamp, let the …

Today was an early dog biscuit buying day (after all, you have to adjust that to the weather conditions on holiday 😜) and of course there was only time for a smaller round afterwards, so today we quickly collected two Goslar stamps 🙂
From the Steinberg car park "Unter den Eichen" we first went …
