Eggegebirge ridge

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The expression "harrow" is a general Low German term for elongated ridges or ridges; The linguistic counterpart is the "Siepen / Siefen / Seifen" (for the notch valleys accompanying the harrows). Until the 17th century, the Eggegebirge together with the northwestern Teutoburg Forest bore the name Osning.

A great, well walkable climb with a magnificent view from the so-called EGGETURM. Through various panels, the story is well explained - interesting photo opportunity.

Attention: Parking at the Externsteinen costs money - but 5 hours around the 3 Euro is reasonable.

The (or: the) Velmerstot is the northernmost and highest mountain of the Eggegebirge in North Rhine-Westphalia. It has the two peaks Prussian Velmerstot (South Summit, about 464 m above sea level NHN [1]), the peak of which rises in the area of Steinheim-Sandebeck in the district Höxter, and the Lippische Velmerstot (♁⊙; Nordkuppe, 441.4 m [1]), which is located in the district of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the district of Lippe. The entire mountain belongs to the nature park Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge. On the Prussian Velmerstot is the Eggeturm (observation tower); on the Lippe Velmerstot with heathland are rugged sandstone rocks.

Here it is really nice - a secret is the area but not. That's why it can be really busy at the weekend in good weather. But: the way is well known the goal. And beautiful paths, or trails, are here without end. Apropos: Here is the end of TransTeuto. If you did that, you are certainly exhausted and want to go home quickly. The best way to do that without a car is to drive three kilometers to Leopoldstal (it's just downhill). Here you have train connection to Paderborn and from there you are pretty much everywhere. If the trip home is not so urgent, the stop in the beautifully located restaurant Silbermühle worth.

March 29, 2025,32. Velmerstot-Volkslauf - LippeTrail 21,2 km
The LippeTrail is a challenging run, not only physically demanding due to the elevation gain, but also the numerous technically challenging singletrack trails with root sections and/or raised rocks, which require utmost concentration while running. Every step must be placed correctly to avoid twisting your ankle. That's why I like to run on such difficult terrain with my forefoot.
