The history of the garden dates back to 1823, when private tree nurseries were established here, which were taken over in 1870 by the state forestry administration in Śmierdnica. It is from this period that most of the oldest, now monumental, specimens of exotic trees originate. They were planted on the edges of the production area as decoration, for the purpose of observing frost resistance, or as a nursery for further propagation. Particularly deserving in this field was the chief forester from Śmierdnica, Carl Ludwig Gene, who worked here for many years at the end of the 19th century. The first information about the garden dates back to 1911, while an inventory from 1938 shows the presence of 51 exotic species of trees and shrubs.
