Strakonice Castle

The Strakonice Castle is a magnificent complex that combines Gothic and Baroque styles, originally built in the 13th century. Historically associated with the Knights of Malta, who resided here for centuries, the castle houses the Romanesque Church of St. Procopius, impressive 14th-century frescoes – the oldest north of the Alps – and the distinctive Rumpál Tower. Today, the castle houses the Museum of the Middle Otava Region, the Šmidinger Library, and an art school.
