Doña Luci Gardens

Highlight • Structure

Beautiful park located right next to the sanctuary of the Virgen de Linarejos. It is dedicated to the midwife Lucía Ruiz Moreno, better known in Linares and part of the province as Doña Luci.

She was one of the first women to have a driving license from the province and went wherever she was needed. He was a very dear person, and very devoted to the Virgin of Linarejos. An excellent professional and a great person.

Sanctuary of the Virgin of Linarejos

Highlight • Religious Site

The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Linarejos, or Nuestra Señora de Linarejos, also called Hermitage, is a Marian sanctuary located at the end of the promenade of the same name in the city of Linares (Jaén).

The temple has its origin in the apparition on August 5, 1227 of the Virgin to a shepherd in that same place. The building that we find today is the result of the transformation of the old hermitage. The interior is decorated with paintings by Francisco Carulla and Francisco Baños.

Land Rover Santana Monument

Highlight • Monument

The Land Rover Santana all-terrain vehicle is one of the symbols of the now-defunct automobile factory in Linares. This vehicle now remains in the form of a monument as part of local history to commemorate the prosperous past that the city had linked to the car manufacturing industry.

The Linares City Council accepted the initiative raised by the neighbor Juan Navarro, ex-Santanero, to dedicate this monument to the aforementioned 4x4 model.

This is a monument in homage to the figure of the international guitarist Andrés Segovia. It is the work of the sculptor Julio López Hernández made in bronze. The monument is located on a plinth, inside the central fountain of the Glorieta de América, at the end of Paseo Virgen de Linarejos.

Plaza de Toros de Linares

Highlight • Monument

The Linares Bullring, also known as the Santa Margarita Bullring, was built in 1866, and inaugurated a year later with a Miura bullfight, with the presence of the swordsmen Antonio Carmona, "El Gordito" and Manuel Carmona , "Baker".

The most well-known and outstanding event that occurred in this arena is the death of the bullfighter Manolete in August 1947, gored by the bull Islero. Next to the gang gate there is a ceramic and marble plaque commemorating that tragic afternoon at the fair.

It has a ring 50 meters in diameter and its alley 1.30 meters wide. It has a capacity of 10,500 spectators.

Constitution Fountain

Highlight • Monument

Beautiful circular fountain located right at the beginning of the Virgen de Linarejos promenade. It is formed by several jets located in a cup that pour the water on itself.

In the center of this beautiful fountain we can find a white marble base, and on it sits the monument to the Constitution, made up of a woman representing the 1978 Constitution, and holding in her hand a dove that takes flight like symbol of peace and freedom.

In my personal opinion, it is a fountain of great beauty due to its design, and above all due to the great meaning that its creator wanted to give it.

Santa Margarita Gardens

Highlight • Natural

This park, known as the Gardens of Santa Margarita, is one of the most important symbols of the history of Linares. It is one of the few gardens from the 19th century that have been preserved, and they were built as a recreation area for the miners who left or returned from the Arrayanes path.

Its benefactors were the Marquises of Linares, who donated these lands (known as "Los solares de Murga", where the jurisdictional roll indicating the end of the population was located). At the entrance through the Plaza de la Constitución there is a fountain - monument dedicated to the Marquises.

The gardens are well cared for, there are different flower beds, hedges... and trees of different species, including orange trees. Inside the park is the Monument to Manolete, and on the other side of the park, the emblematic Plaza de Toros de Linares where the bullfighter died.
