Rhyd Ddu Path

Highlight • Viewpoint

With the spectacular Snowdon Massif to the east, the Nantlle Ridge rising dramatically to the west and the grand Moel Hebog and family to the south, Rhyd Ddu is simply a fantastic basecamp for hiking adventures in Snowdonia. It is a wonder that relatively few people come here.

The Rhyd Ddu Path up Snowdon leaves from the village, whilst the Snowdon Ranger begins just to the north by Llyn Cwellyn. Snowdon's exciting but quiet South Ridge is accessible from here too. Meanwhile, to the west, the Nantlle Ridge is a sensational ridge walk with some low-end scrambling.

After a day on the trails, the Cwellyn Arms is a great pub with a host of accommodation options. You can also hop on the charming West Highland Railway from the village.

Beddgelert Stone Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Presumably there was a bridge here for a long time that gave access from the north side of the river to the Augustinian priory of Beddgelert. In 1623 it was recorded that the bridge needed repairs and in 1778 it was repaired and widened. Much of the bridge appears to have been swept away in a flood of 1799 and was repaired again and doubled in width between 1802 and 1811.

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

Llyn Cwellyn is a reservoir in North Wales which supplies drinking water to parts of Gwynedd and Anglesey. It lies on the Afon Gwyrfai in Nant y Betws between Moel Eilio and Mynydd Mawr in the northern part of Snowdonia National Park. It has an area of 215 acres, and is over 120 ft deep.
It has amazing views well worth a stop.
