Holy Island (Lindisfarne)

Highlight • Historical Site

Visit Lindisfarne Castle (National Trust) and Lindisfarne Priory (English Heritage). Holy Island is also the starting point of both St Oswald's Way and St Cuthbert's Way. Do not miss a visit to Pilgrim's coffee in the village, open from 9:30 - 17:00 every day and try their excellent cakes and sandwiches before setting off on the Pilgrim's Way at low tide.

Wonderful cafe roasting their own beans and selling amazing coffees, pies, cakes, etc all in a beautiful building with walled garden.

The Outchester Ducket

Highlight • Historical Site

The Ducket, a 65 feet high tower, is located in its own grounds on Outchester Farm, about half-a-mile from Budle Bay. Built sometime in the 18th century, it stands like a watchtower over the Northumbrian Coast as if guarding the approach to Holy Island.
Now a holiday cottage.

Bamburgh Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

There has been a castle here for 1400 years, since the Anglo Saxon Kings used it as the stronghold in Northumbria. The current castle sits on a 9 acre rocky plinth, it's one of the largest inhabited castles in the country.
You can visit the castle and the pretty village but some of the best views are from the beach.

Bamburgh Castle

Highlight • Historical Site

Bamburgh is a beautiful coastal town in the heart of Northumberland. Thousands of people visit Bamburgh every year for its famous castle, coastlines & walking trails.
Yet to visit any time it's not been extremely busy, but there's plenty of peace and quiet once outside of the Main Street.

View of the Farne Islands

Highlight • Beach

Great views out to the Farne Island. Lovely on the sunny day. But it can be brutal in a cold North Easterly wind, coming right of the North Sea. A route to pick for a nice day

View of Budle Bay

Highlight • Beach

There's a helpful Information Panel with seating area by the water's edge (when the tide is in!) which gives lots of information about migrating birds and other wildlife in this 'special place' for wildlife and nature.
