Ashmore Village and Pond

Highlight • Settlement

A central pond, thatched cottages and a sense of peace, Ashmore is a wonderfully pretty village to pedal through. It's actually the highest in Dorset – too high for time to have caught up with it, as it rather feels like stepping into history.

The Komoot app suggests the North South approach path uphill is a bike path but I had to remove bikepacking gear to push up this narrow steep and loose rutted pathway to the top. Good views at the top.

Woodland Singletrack in Cranborne Chase

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

Great little single track through the woods. Fast and with the occasional root to jump, way better than the road! 😁

Ox Drove Gravel Road

Highlight • Trail

Need a dryer day if you're on lightweight wheels/tyres, great back road with views of wiltshire one side and dorset the other. Links the Chalkes to top of Win Green towards Shaftesbury. Keeps off the main roads for a few Km's!

The old drove roads have been here for thousands of years providing the safest way of travelling and moving cattle across the land. This road was probably used to move the cows towards Salisbury and then onward to the ports at Southampton.
The section that is rideable today passes an old ale house, dew ponds and grain storage sheds. The surface is easily rideable on a mountain bike but does get a bit muddy in the winter. Great views all year though!
This is part of the Cranborne Droves Way Trail, a 27km route that links the Sarsen Way at Salisbury with the Wessex Ridgeway Trail at Win Green.

Chalk Downland Descent

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Beautiful sweeping descent through open chalk downland. It keeps going and stays good beyond the section marked, but watch the road surface once you get into the trees, and the tight right-hander when you get to it.

Nice easy going route from Blandford to Sturminster Newton, running along old railway line. Very easy going gravel.
