View of Cochem Castle from the Moselle Cycle Path

Highlight • Viewpoint

The imperial castle in Cochem towers about 100m (154m NN) above the city. It is a medieval customs castle. A tour with a guide is very worthwhile.

Today it was supposed to rain, but it wasn't too bad and passed quickly. So we headed off toward Beilstein. First through the nature reserve to Klotten, then on to Cochem and then to Beilstein. A tiny village with masses of tourists. We didn't want to be pushed around, so we took the ferry across. We returned on the other …

Route from Klotten ferry to almost Treis very bad

Finally, we cycled from Ernst to Treis-Karden. From Klotten, we took a rather rough forest path through the nature reserve. We returned on the well-maintained cycle path via the more than busy town of Cochem, at a shady 33°C back to Ernst.

Mosel Islands is a superb campsite with its own marina and a fantastic boathouse (restaurant).

This ride in the early morning finished at about 25 degrees. This afternoon they predict +30 degrees... The forest path between Treis and Cochem (+/- 6-7 km) through a beautiful nature reserve brings some cooling, but the path is hungry for fresh gravel. Now you bump over stones, rubble and pieces of rock

A (shorter) morning tour under a heavily cloudy sky. Fortunately it stayed dry until the end of the ride. I normally take a forest path between Treis Karden and Klotten, but this time I did not choose to do so due to the heavy rainfall during the past weekend. According to the man at the ferry in Klotten, the path …

Unfortunately only a shortened tour due to the onset of rain

One last round on the Moselle by bike. After the many km of the last few days, the desire is a little dampened, I notice. So I locked up my bike in Cochem and walked the many small alleys, up and down stairs, explored 3 different climbs to the castle and finally ate some delicious ice cream before going back. …

The side by the main road is great to ride on but not pretty. The other side up to the Klotten ferry is also good, the rest is very rocky and muddy. It's good if you have suspension on your bike!
