The Pointe de la Varde area is a sensitive natural area located to the east of Saint-Malo, in the Rothéneuf district. It is a rocky point culminating at 32 meters above the sea, which offers a panorama of the bay of Saint-Malo, the Rance estuary and Cap Fréhel. The area also houses a historical and military heritage, with the remains of the fort at the Pointe de la Varde, built by Vauban in the 17th century to defend the Saint-Malo port, and the German blockhouses dating from the Second World War. These ruins are currently closed to the public for safety reasons, but a restoration project is underway to make them accessible. The estate has been owned by the Conservatoire du littoral for 30 years and is managed by the Department of Ille-et-Vilaine
