Monument to Michele Scarponi (Monte Petrano)

Highlight • Summit

The climb from Cagli is hard and does not give up a meter. Upon arrival there are two bars, one near the pass and one in front of the plaque in memory of Scarponi. The descent on the road is mandatory again towards Cagli, but for the intrepid you can go down to Cantiano through breathtaking dirt tracks. We did it with vintage Dordi.

This stretch of road follows the route of the ancient Via Flaminia and connects the towns of Cagli and Cantiano through the narrow Burano valley. The road has little traffic thanks to the construction of the new state road that runs parallel. The gorge carved out over time by the watercourse is spectacular and evocative.

Piazza Luceoli, Cantiano

Highlight • Settlement

The small village of Cantiano is located at the foot of the Site of Community Importance of Monte Catria and Monte Acuto, among limestone reliefs, beech forests and waterways. It is the most important mountain ridge of the Marche Apennines after the Sibillini and Monti della Laga.
In the village you can visit the church of San Giovanni Battista and the Turba museum, and among the attractions there is the bread of Chiaserna and the characteristic sour cherry of Cantiano.
