View of Sämtisersee

Highlight • Viewpoint

Sämtisersee, Alpstein region
The picturesque Sämtisersee is located above Brülisau in the municipality of Rüte in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The Appenzell mountain lake is located at the foot of the Hoher Kasten in the Alpstein region at an altitude of around 1200 meters above sea level. The Seealpsee and the Fälensee, the other two larger lakes in the Alpstein, are each about three kilometers (as the crow flies) to the southwest. The Sämtisersee is fed by various streams, especially the Sämtiserbach.

Lake Sämtiser

Highlight • Lake

Sämtisersee at 1200 meters
As with Fählensee, there is no outflow to be seen here. The water from both lakes flows underground and reappears in the Rhine Valley. Outflow or not, enjoy a refreshing swim!
The water level fluctuates greatly, which is why Sämtisersee almost dries out in very hot summers.

Fählensee

Highlight • Lake

In its small valley incision, surrounded by high mountain ridges, the Fählensee lies quiet and black on cloudy days. On sunny days, the beauties of the Alpstein are reflected in it and make the hike here a worthwhile experience.

Plattenbödeli mountain inn since 1911 at 1284 m above sea level.
Unique landscape in the Alpstein.
1911 - Innkeeper Jos. Anton Dörig "Mattle" (great-grandfather of Platte Hans and grandfather of Meglisalp Mile) bought a piece of land at the exit of the Brüeltobel and built a small guesthouse, which he soon handed over to his daughter Franziska Inauen-Dörig.
1917 - Handed over to daughter Franziska Fritsche-Inauen.
1930 - Alfred Fritsche built the current inn.
1934 - Electric light was used for the first time on the Plattenbödeli, powered by a single-cylinder diesel engine and an Örlikon battery.
1958 - Son Hans and Alice Fritsche-Holderegger bought the business. To remedy the water shortage, a 1000m long pipe was laid from the Alp Rainhütte through the lake. The spring is 60m higher than the Plattenbödeli and thus the water flows into the reservoir with counter pressure. The diesel system was enlarged and a dishwasher and a washing machine were installed.
1964 - The mule track through the Brüeltobel is expanded as a road.
1971 - The kitchen is added, the toilet facilities are converted and the restaurant with a self-service buffet is renovated. The main entrance is moved to the sunny side and the terrace is extended. A separate sewage treatment plant is built and the diesel system is renewed.
2022 - Alois and Manuela Inauen Sager purchase the mountain inn.

Spent a wonderful day in the Alpstein 😍 this is how you slow down 🫶🏼 the changing cloud moods were just wow and the whole area was there 🥰

the dark red area in the elevation profile is wrong, the GPS probably got too hot 🤣🤣

Grüezi from Switzerland 🙋‍♀️
Today we had a stolen tour from @KISS. All I can say is, MEGA 😍 Parking costs 5 francs (no EC possible and no euros either)
Then it went steeply 🥵 up next to the Brüeltobel, luckily in the shade.
At the top you can take a break in the Plattenbödeli, but it was still too …

My first Alpstein tour (Sämtisersee-Bollenwees) in spring 🥰 before the winter and the cold come back again 🙃
About half of the Alpstein is already (still...) green, the other half still has old snow, but significantly less than in other years
The paths were therefore largely snow-free and dry, in other places there was still old snow, quite good bearing …

First big spring tour in the (still...) super beautiful Alpstein 🤩

Weather nice to more cloudy, quite cold at -2/+3°C, plus fresh bise.
Most of the paths are snow-free, with a few exceptions (partly Brüeltobel, Stiefel, Bollenwees-Furgglen), but everything is easy to do.
In the part behind the Plattenbödeli I only met 5 people, 1x with skis and 1x with …

I recently got into conversation with Jonny. Caving is his great hobby and I'm also fascinated by it and so he offered to take me along and show me one and we did that today.

At the Pfannenstiel car park in Brülisau, as agreed, we meet the small family, Eva, Rainer and their 11-year-old daughter Viktoria, who is on vacation …

The ascent at the boot, I'm glad I did it uphill. However, the descent through the ravine between Ruhsitz and the Alp Sigel valley station was no fun. And the ascent to the Plattenbödeli very tough. Everything else just awesome.

Showing Translation

The tour is really tough because there are very steep sections to be overcome.

First and very beautiful spring tour in the Alpstein 😊
Sunny areas are snow-free far up, but other areas still have snow, albeit comparatively little. Brüeltobel is still partly covered in icy hard snow.
The Sämtisersee is practically empty; I even saw the "underwater" seepage hole.
