History:
There was a water castle here that came into the possession of the Mechelen Jesuits in the course of the 17th century and was used by them as a country house. However, in 1773 the order was dissolved. The house was then sold to the wealthy Mechelen hat manufacturer Constant Van den Nieuwenhuysen.
Around 1800, work began on the construction of an English landscape garden with two water features. This included remnants of the former moat. In 1845, things came to Joseph Poot and the castle was enlarged in a neoclassical style.
From 1941 onwards the domain was given to project developers. In 1965, more than 3 hectares of the domain were sold to the industrialist Albert Van Ussel. The remainder, including the courtyard, was parceled out for villa construction. The castle was restored in 1966-1971. Remains of a Gothic core were found in the cellars. The actual castle looks neoclassical.
