Nekkersgat Mill

Highlight • Monument

The old Nekkersgat mill, nestled in lush greenery, is a typical example of rural Brabant architecture from the 17th century. The small rivers of the region were indeed studded with mills, major industrial structures in our landscapes until their supplantation by flour mills and other modern machinery in the 20th century.

Alternately flour mill, oil mill and paper mill, it ceased to operate after 1918 and the machinery was then removed. In 1970, the municipality of Uccle saved it from demolition and craft and artistic activities developed there. The complete restoration of the mill and its surroundings, on the initiative of the municipality of Uccle, has given the site all its charm.

Geleytsbeek

Highlight • River

The Geleytsbeek is a small, picturesque stream that flows through the south-west of the Brussels-Capital Region and several municipalities in Flemish Brabant. This stream rises in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and meanders through a mix of urban and green areas, including parks, forests and farmland. The Geleytsbeek plays an important role in local nature conservation projects, working on water purification and restoring natural banks to promote biodiversity. A beautiful place to walk and enjoy nature close to the city.

Kinsendael Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

Small nature reserve at the bottom of Uccle (near Calevoet station). Can be very muddy, despite the presence of duckboards.
