Beautiful cycling connection in Uithoorn

Fort bij Uithoorn, also known as Fort Amstelhoek, is striking because of the two buildings with lifting turret guns that are connected to the fort via a corridor. Original elements such as wooden partitions and a telegraph room have been preserved. Built in 1911, the fort defended strategic points along the Amstel and a railway.

Today the fort is under development but open for tours and meetings by appointment.

Baambrugge Village Drawbridge

Highlight • Bridge

The cast-iron bridge dates from 1877 and was built by the iron foundry "De Prins van Oranje" from The Hague. The bridge, which has a limited load-bearing capacity, connects the Rijksstraatweg and Zand en Jaagpad with Brugstraat. The rising section consists of two cast-iron posts supporting an openwork cast-iron hammer. The entire structure has been listed in the national monuments register since 2001.

Ronde Hoep Route

Highlight • Cycleway

The Ronde Hoep is one of the most famous cycling routes for cyclists from Amsterdam. It is therefore a nice round just below Amsterdam, and you are also not bothered by other traffic.

Bridge over the Oude Waver

Highlight • Bridge

This elegant bridge stands alone in the beautiful polder landscape. It's a self-service bridge. Sometimes you are asked by passing boats to lend a hand. Finally, take some time from the bridge to enjoy the landscape

Fort Waver-Amstel

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Waver-Amstel was built between 1886 and 1911. The fort blocked and defended the entrances to the Veldweg and the flood lock to the east of it. The original furnishings and electrical installations from the early 20th century have been well preserved.

In 1920 the fort had 266 personnel, which rose to 375 in 1924. The fort remained militarily relevant for 40 years until its dissolution on October 28, 1951. In 2015 it was partly restored.

Although the towers were destroyed by the German occupiers during the Second World War, the fortress is in good condition. Today it is owned by the Association of Natural Monuments and houses a wine warehouse.
