Muntengang Deventer

At the end of the 10th century, coins were minted in Deventer in this Coin Tower, which is part of the Coin Complex. Only very prosperous cities were given the right to mint coins in the Middle Ages.

In 1708 the last coin in Deventer was minted in the Muntentoren. The coin complex was destroyed in 1945, after which it was restored in 1951. More than 9,000 coins from the years 1040 to 1100 have been found in the Netherlands. 1639 of these coins found come from Deventer.
