Geldie Burn Ford

Highlight • River

Because two rivers meet here, the passage is wider than most other rivers at the top of Glen Tilt and Mar Lodge Estate. I was here in July and could only cycle halfway across the river. The outer bend, as usual, was deep and had a strong current, forcing me to walk with my bike on my shoulders.

Red House Bothy

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The bothy is the latest of around 100 remote huts. The building was completely renovated in 2022 and officially opened as a shelter for walkers in January 2023. It has one room with bunk beds and one room with benches and a fireplace. There is also a separate outhouse with toilets. Geldie Burn is close by and you have a magnificient view over the Cairngorms. Enjoy your stay!

Bob Scott's Bothy

Highlight • Rest Area

Bob Scott's Bothy is on the Mar Lodge Estate and open for use by all. The bothy is fashioned from stone and wood with a tin roof and features a multifuel stove. The bothy will comfortably fit a dozen or so and is one of the most popular in the Cairngorms.

Water from Lui Burn nearby is potable and there's a septic tank loo to the side of the bothy for human waste and loo roll only.
