View of Salford Quays

Highlight • Viewpoint

I never hesitate to include Salford Quays into my rides. It's an interesting location, with a lot of off road, yet paved cycling paths and can connect you to the rest of Salford, or the city centre, or Old Trafford or Trafford Park.

Salford Quays Waterfront

Highlight • Structure

Salford Quays is a triumph of regeneration. Following the closure of the dockworks in 1982, it became one of Britain's biggest urban regeneration projects. Today it is a centre for the arts, media, culture and sport.

The 200 acre (81 ha) Media City is one of the area’s most modern developments and is a regional headquarters of the BBC, with over 3,200 employees working on the site.

Other notable landmarks are the Lowry, an art gallery and theatre space named after LS Lowry, Salford's most famous artist; the Imperial War Museum, an architectural masterpiece; and Old Trafford, home to one of the world's greatest football clubs, Manchester United.
