Cheshire Smokehouse

Highlight • Cafe

Amazing place to stop off & try their amazing food in its café.
Visitors to The Cheshire Smokehouse know they’re nearby long before reaching this wonderful café and shop as the delicious smell of smoking meat and fish assails them on the approach.

The smoke stoves are filled with sweet-smelling chippings of maple and oak which impart the distinctive taste of Cheshire Smokehouse products. As both Speciality Food Shop and producer, everything you see - home-cured bacon, sausages, freshly jointed meat, smoked fish, prepared meals, sauces, even smoked nuts - have been carefully prepared in the spacious and hygienic preparation areas on site near Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The Smokery business itself was established over 100 years ago by John William Ward, who learnt his craft in Canada. He set up the small business in 1907 in Cheetham Hill, Manchester and the company is still in the hands of the same family. Skills of the trade have been passed down through the generations, and the current owner is his great grandson Darren.Due to these close family links, handed down skills and traditions, the Cheshire Smokehouse can enjoy and support its reputation as a local supplier of high class quality foods, for which people will travel from all over the UK.

In the shop they sell a wide range of oils, vinegars, olives, fresh vegetables, dairy products, relishes, chutney, dressings and jams – many from other good local producers. The shop has its own on site butchery where you’ll find quality locally sourced fresh meat, poultry and game prepared by experienced butchers who know their craft.
Their in-house chefs prepare a range of fresh salads, dips, sauces and ready-to-cook-at-home dishes. They can also cover offer outside catering for a variety of functions.
The Smokehouse also has its own Bakehouse which prepares fresh bread daily as well as quiches, pastries, pies, biscuits and fabulous cakes.
There is a dedicated Smokehouse Wine section which offers a truly fantastic collection of fine wines, spirits and beers. Expert Philip is often on hand and more than happy to offer advice and guidance.

Upstairs, the Smokehouse Café is always busy, and offers a range of dishes showcasing Smokehouse produce such as a first class cooked breakfast, perfect open sandwiches and platters.
