Box Hill & Westhumble railway station

Highlight • Monument

Box Hill & Westhumble train station is the end (or start) of the Thames Downs Link, a footpath from Kingston upon Thames that links the Thames Path with the North Downs Way – which begins a stone's throw from this station.

The station itself was opened in 1867 and designed by the famous Victorian architect, Charles Henry Driver. It's quite a pretty station, with pitched roofs and a turret.

During the Second World War, Winston Churchill would use the common as his landing strip on visits to Lord Beaverbrook, a member of the War Cabinet, who lived nearby.
