Lockerbrook Descent

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Fast when dry singletrack through the woods with glimpses of the reservoir on your right hand-side that opens up into a loose rocky descent, great fun! Good confidence on the bike required because it can get quite techy in places.

Langsett Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

Langsett Reservoir is a lovely place to walk around and is moderate loop with great views across the reservoir. You can also use this as a base to explore longer walks in the Peak District. There is a free car park with toilets available but this does get quite busy. There is also a nice cafe and pub close to the parking area.

Cranberry Clough Descent

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

Assuming you have ridden from Howdens reservoir, you have already climbed (or pushed) up this rather steep and rocky section with a couple of hairpin bends thrown into the mix.

Coming down it is crazy. Avoid the temping paths that go straight on at the top and turn left. When it gets really crazy there is another option to go straight on but again turn left and drop off a big rock into the last couple of bends. Sweet!

Cold Side Singletrack

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Sandy and rocky run, can be slippy on the loose rocks but the views are incredible

Derwent Reservoir

Highlight • Cycleway

Sight of the dambusters practice missions. The routes around all three reservoirs are ideal for active families or the less fit/ambitious biker. stunning scenery. When you reach the very northern point there is a bridge. Either go over this and return on the other side of the reservoirs or ride through the river into Narnia 😜

This place is open every day, all year round. We stopped for an ice lolly on a beautiful sunny day and admired the reservoir and ducks.

Bouldery, jarring, juddery, dusty, hot, fair bit of walking (not too much), but thoroughly enjoyed. Views spectacular.
Weather was crap for this one and ground conditions were wet not to be deterred, cracked on with route taking in lost lad then the cutgate out and back.battery was sapped on the return leg thanks to the wind in the face whilst climbing.Finished off climbing the fire road to lockerbrook then took in the screaming mile descent what I've only …
September 1, 2024,Cutgate out and back
Starting from the ladybower inn we made our way upto the cutgate which is always a great challenge.Once we got to Margery hill visibility was very low for the descent to langsett. After a quick loop of langsett we made our way back over the cutgate via the north America path and headed back to the cars that were parked on …
I've been here plenty of times but never ridden over the moorland from Derwent to Langsett reseroir on Cutgate trail, so I thought I'd better do it before I run out of steam. Some of the uphill parts are push only and the down hill parts are very rough but fun all the same. You certainly need a degree of …
This considered by MBR magazine to be one of the best trails in the country and I won't argue about that.

It will not be to everyone's taste of course. It is a tough route with some hike-a-bike sections and some rocky technical parts that can really frustrate if you take the wrong line on a rut or stall on …

Cut Gate Pre-Ride.
What a shit MTB ride it really is. I’ve ridden it many times now, not for a number of years and today I remembered why I don’t bother with it.
Riding from Fairholmes Visitor Centre around kilometre 5-11km is mostly unrideable on steep loose rocks or muddy terrain, maybe a little more rideable on an eBike, but …
