Llyn Cefni Dam

Highlight • Monument

Llyn Cefni Dam

During World War II, a water scheme was devised for the town of Llangefni in central Anglesey. It involved water from a local source being pumped to two settling tanks in the Dingle part of the town. From here the water was pumped across the river to a reservoir and water tower, on the site of the present Pennant Estate. These arrangements became redundant with the building of the Cefni Reservoir, which was completed in 1951, but the settling tanks and pumping station survive in Llangefni to this day. The new scheme was designed to supply most of the water needs for the people of Anglesey for the foreseeable future

The start of the walking trail to Llanddwyn Island. From here you have views towards the beach and the mountains of Snowdonia which make it a lovely place to stop.

Lôn Las Cefni tour from Llangefni Town Hall, mostly traffic free, flat and family friendly. When arriving at Ynys Llanddwyn lock your bikes to a tree and check the tide times prior to travel so you can walk across to the island and view the lighthouses up close.

On the southwest coast of Anglesey is this hidden gem of a nature reserve. Expect golden beaches, sea views, forest walks, cycle tracks and even a dedicated running circuit. There's a good amount of parking and plenty to keep you going all day.

Llanddwyn Beach

Highlight • Viewpoint

Cycle through the trees of Newborough and you reach Traeth Llanddwyn, a long sandy beach. Located at the southern-most point of Anglesey, this is a wonderful area with coniferous woodland, coastal marshes and sandy dunes. I could imagine this would be a lovely place for a swim too (although when I was there, it was raining).

At low tide, you can walk to Llanddwyn Island, a stone's throw from the beach.

Llangefni (meaning "church on the River Cefni", Welsh pronunciation: [ɬaŋˈɡɛvni]) population 5,116, making it the second-largest town in the county and the largest on the island. The community includes the village of Rhosmeirch.
Wonderful welsh town with all the shop can get busy in summer holidays.
