In front of the old town hall, this postbox serves as a reminder that the first postbox in the United Kingdom was installed in the city of Carlisle in 1853.

Carlisle Market Cross

Highlight • Monument

Reflect on the vibrant heart of Carlisle and discover the Carlisle Market Cross, a historic jewel in the square off Scotch Street. This imposing sandstone column, erected in 1682, marks the old market center and once stood on the ancient Roman forum of the city of Luguvalium.
At the top is a lion with its mouth open, facing north toward Scotland—a symbolic guardian animal protecting the city charter. Around it are four sundials, a nod to time and the past. The ornaments, gilded with gold leaf, give the whole a regal flair.
During the 2009 restoration, the lion's head was replaced with a replica in red sandstone, and the monument was completely refurbished with the help of heritage specialists.
The Market Cross is the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie proclaimed his father king in 1745.

The two oval towers are an impressive sight to see when departing Carlisle railway station. This area is part of a multi-million pound redevelopment deal for the city of Carlisle.

Carlisle Castle Round Tower

Highlight • Castle

Carlisle City Centre has castle grounds and what seems like an inner castle. There are several of these curved historical fort type structures, well preserved, whilst being the main city centre features

Old Cherry Blossom Tree

Highlight • Natural

Church next to this cherry tree was build in 1828 and I would like to believe that the 2 trees were planted in that time. Unfortunately one "died" few years ago. Magnificent when in bloom and worth seeing 🍒
