At the Kaiserstein there is a statue of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The Emperor had ascended from Heiligenblut to this point on September 7, 1856. His wife, Elisabeth of Austria, stayed on the wooden floor (today the Glocknerhaus).

We actually wanted to go to the Oberwalderhütte. Since it was raining, we opted for a small tourist cultural program. However, the glacier exhibition is highly recommended

After retreating from the Spielmann we drove to the parking lot at the Franz-Kaiser - Josef - Höhe. And did a little lap and observed marmots. Who show no shyness up here.
In the end we went from Heiligenblut to the Franz-Kaiser-Josef-Höhe and back over the Hochtorpass (2504 m) to Fusch, down the entire 48 km of the Glockner High …

Today was great weather with a fantastic mountain panorama 🤩

After the rather strenuous hike down to the Pasterze Glacier Lake, we continued along the panoramic trail of the Kaiser Franz Josef Höhe. Even from the terraces below, we could see the marmots, who were no longer afraid of humans, but were looking up expectantly to see what food they might drop.

But not only the breakfast at this special place was a highlight... We saw and heard endless marmots🦦 And right at the top of the mountain slopes we could see ibexes🐐🏔️ Simply amazing🙌

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is 48 kilometers long. It involves 36 bends uphill and downhill, all the way up to the Hochtor at an altitude of 2,504 meters. The highest drivable point is even higher: on the 2,571 meter high Edelweiss peak, to which a dead-end road leads.

Be sure to bring chopped 🥕 carrots with children. The animals are very tame and can be fed! But please don't leave the hiking trails!

Dreamy views of the Großglockner, but deep sadness overcomes one at the sight of the Pasterze! 😢
