Evangelical Reformed Church, Arosa

Highlight • Religious Site

Evangelical Reformed Church Community of Arosa
The village church was built between 1907 and 1909 because the little mountain church could no longer accommodate the people and because Arosa needed a public clock. Four bells were installed in the tower, one C sharp, one E, one F sharp and one A bell. The little mountain church degenerated into a tool shed for the cemetery.

Arosa railway station

Arosa Train Station (RhB)
In the course of the lengthy and complex project planning of the Arosa Railway at the beginning of the 20th century, it was not only the determination of the line that was hotly disputed for a long time, but also the location of the Arosa train station: in particular, the Hof Arosa, Obersee and Untersee, the Hubelschulhaus and the Schwarzsee considered. A particularly noteworthy railway project with a route Chur-Parpan-Arosa, in addition to an Urden-Hörnli tunnel with a portal at the Wasserbodasee at 2144 m, envisaged the terminus in Innerarosa.
The Arosa train station was therefore located on the Obersee without the intermediate station Untersee, which Bener later commented as follows: "Whether the final section with the 290 meter long, very expensive Aroser tunnel prescribed by Arosa's prospective construction management was more appropriate than the technically simpler and much cheaper one Project with the train station at Schwarzsee, will only be able to prove the later development of Arosa. In terms of landscape, the current Arosa station is indisputably one of the most beautiful railway stations in Switzerland».
The station was designed as a terminus, but could be converted into a through station if this later proved necessary or desirable. Such an adjustment was temporarily considered in 1928 when, among other things, an extension of the railway line to the Tschuggen was under discussion. In retrospect, the solution implemented in 1914 represented a good basis in terms of traffic engineering, which in no way impaired the development of the spa town of Arosa. The question of a fundamental change in the station facilities did not arise until the renovation in 2014.
