Verginella and a genuine Osmizza with a terrace overlooking the Gulf of Trieste. You eat platters of salami and cheese and hard-boiled eggs. Fixed menu, but the place is mainly known for the landscape. Advised!

beautiful stretch in the San Primo wood just outside the village of Santa Croce. easy-to-follow paths even in gravel, along what tradition indicates as an ancient Roman road. In the shade of black pines and oaks there is a beautiful succession of karst sinkholes and truly suggestive rock formations.

Slataper Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

South-east of the town of Santa Croce, on the top of Mount San Primo (278 m asl), there is the lookout dedicated to one of the most important Italian intellectuals of the early twentieth century: Scipio Slataper. From its top you can admire a splendid panorama of the Gulf of Trieste and the Miramare Castle.

The current structure, on whose terrace there is a wind rose, was erected in 1956 by SE.L.A.D. (Section Work Unemployed Assistance), a body of Civil Engineering created after the Second World War. At the time, the unemployed who obtained a subsidy had to simultaneously lend their work to public works, such as roads, gardens, sidewalks, canopies and lookouts.

The historic "Napoleon Street" leads from the San Nazario car park at the southern end of the village of Prosecco, above Miramare Castle, approx. 300 meters above sea level, approx. 4 km long to the obelisk above Trieste.
According to legend, Napoleon had it built in 1797 as a supply route for his troops.
The official name of the former strategic supply route and today's Napoleonstrasse/Strada Napoleonica cycling and hiking trail is "Strada Vicentina", named after the engineer Giacomo Vicentini, according to whose plans the path was expanded in 1821.

Opicina Obelisk

Highlight • Monument

The obelisk that stands at the top of the Strada Nuova per Opicina (the so-called Napoleonic) was erected to celebrate the construction of this road. Designed by Biagio Valle, it was commissioned in 1834 and should have been delivered on 22 October 1838, the date on which the visit to Trieste of the emperor Ferdinand I was scheduled. then the breaking of the cart that transported it from the Zagorsko quarry of Monrupino, then problems with the winch used to erect it. Even the planned visit of the Emperor to Trieste did not take place, so much so that the obelisk was only completed on March 30, 1839.
