The Ruhrtal bridge in the south of Mülheim on the border with Essen is the longest road bridge made of steel in Germany at 1,830 meters. The building runs as part of the Federal Highway 52 in east-west direction.

The bridge spans the Ruhr valley in a wide arc and connects the cities of Düsseldorf and Essen via the A52 motorway. This section of the road used to be the freeway-like Federal Highway 288.
