Valley Road Neuleiningen–Höningen

Highlight • Trail

You start from Neuleiningen with a very gentle slope of an average of 2% to Lindemannsruhe. The first section leads through the valley along the Eckbach and, in my opinion, is relatively boring to drive, as this section to Altleiningen is very industrial. Only from Altleiningen does the road meander below the castle on a narrow road through the village, creating a feeling of seclusion and tranquility. In the center of the village behind the Protestant church, the path turns left with a short steep incline in the direction of Höningen. If you have done this you get a very good view of the valley of the Höniger Bach with its meadows and fields. After leaving the Höningen monastery, which is only a ruin, and the village, the narrow road climbs gently up to 488m above sea level. NN. Very nice, winding section with little traffic. Especially at dusk, when rays of sunshine fall through the mixed forest here and there, the Palatinate Forest with its red sandstone cliffs shows itself from its most beautiful side. If you have made it to Lindemannsruhe, you only go downhill to Leistadt, from where you have a beautiful view of the Rhine plain.

The St. Andrew's Church with its onion-domed tower is the landmark of Kirchheim (Weinstr.) and can even be easily recognized from the Haardtrand of the Palatinate Forest! Above a door (to the left of the entrance door) is the year "1747". There is an ancient tree in the garden in front of the church (marked as a natural monument).

"One of the first churches in the area was probably built at this point in Franconian times. This church is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1151. However, since it gave the place its name much earlier, one can assume that , that there was a place of worship here for the residents of the surrounding villages as early as the 6th century. - Construction of today's church began around the year 1500. The 42 meter high church tower dates from 1761. - That the church was initially used as a Catholic place of worship "The organ served can still be recognized today by its furnishings (e.g. Gothic altar with the figures of Saints Anna and Mary). - The baroque case of the organ dates from around 1750. The instrument itself was rebuilt and renewed several times."

Old Village Mill, Großkarlbach

Highlight • Monument

The Eckbach-Mühlenwanderweg leads for about 23 kilometers through the southern Leiningerland. Originally, there were 35 mills in the various villages. In Großkarlbach remains of six mills are still present - nice intermediate goal of a tour.

Old Town Hall (1714/18) - Dirmstein 🚴‍♂️
The Old Town Hall in Dirmstein is a listed building, built between 1714 and 1718 and opened no later than 1721. At times, it was used as a school for both denominations. However, it always served as the town hall – until 1990, when the municipal administration moved to the neighboring Sturmfeder Castle. Inmates were held in the dungeon, which is only accessible from the outside, as late as the first half of the 20th century. Later, it was used as a storage room by the municipal administration. Since 1997, the town hall has served as the "House of Associations."

The Old Town Hall is located in the town center, the Oberdorf, north of the Laurentius Church in the westernmost part of Mitteltor Street. The rear of the building forms the southeastern end of the Schlossplatz. In addition to the church, other historic buildings are located nearby, such as the St. Michael Pharmacy, the house at Marktstraße 1, and the Spitalhof. 🚴‍♂️
