Highlight • Cave

A few steps down you reach a cool place where the gorge emerges from a cave and the water has dug its way under the rocks.

Veliki Predaselj and Mali Predaselj represent the narrowest parts of the Kamniška Bistrica riverbed. They form a 100 m long gorge, in which the river streams between vertical walls of very hard, dark-grey limestone. In its central part the gorge widens into a basin that separates the upper, longer and deeper part, called Veliki Predaselj (30 m deep) from the lower and shorter part, called Mali Predaselj (15 m deep).

At first you will only notice a small artificial lake, but if you explore the surroundings a bit above it, you will be pleasantly surprised. Water flows daily from under many moss-covered rocks, spruce trees grow on larger boulders, and the water creates small waterfalls and rapids. It is very pleasant to discover this mysterious karst world. After heavy rains, of course, it’s the wildest.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes in Kamniška Bistrica was built by the Kamniška bourgeois corporation in 1897. When a larger mountain lodge was built in Kamniška Bistrica in 1928, Mass was more frequent in the chapel. Occasionally, funeral rites were performed in the chapel for the injured mountaineers. After the war, the chapel came under the administration of the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia. It was desecrated in 1951 and served as a warehouse for some time. The party pastor France Gačnik succeeded in returning it to the parish for use and after a thorough restoration it was blessed on 15 May 1967.
