Zschirnstein bivouac site

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Zschinstein bivouac is part of the Forststeig. There is this little mini hut, a compost toilet, a rain container with process water and a table with a bench. You have to bring your own drinking water. It is advisable to buy a water filter in the outdoor shop for the hike, otherwise it will be difficult with the drinking water supply on the Forststeig.

In order to be able to spend the night here, you have to purchase a trekking ticket worth 10 euros in advance. These tickets are valid for two years. To use it, fill in the date, throw one half into the ticket mailbox and keep the other half ready to show.

The Great Zschirnstein is the highest mountain in the German Elbe Sandstone Mountains. From its plateau with its pretty stone column, you have a great view of Bohemian Switzerland. In good weather, you can even see the Giant Mountains and the Eastern Ore Mountains in the distance.

This is the first mountain you reach on the Forststeig coming from Schöna. Very important: you have to make a short detour to the left to get to the viewpoint, otherwise the Forststeig will simply lead you past.

Gelobtbach Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The Gelobtbach is a narrow tributary of the Elbe and runs almost along its entire route along the German-Czech border. Sometimes it flows as a narrow run through rustic forest, sometimes it splashing through exciting sandstone canyons. On a hiking trail right on the shore you can explore the lonely and natural valley on your own.

Gelobtbachweg Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Wildly romantic path 😍 in some places the creek broke away, nothing despite the test, easy to walk on with sturdy shoes. You then get out directly at the Elbe CZ border

Gelobtbach Waterfall and Mill Pond

Highlight • Waterfall

Unfortunately, the ramp at the mill is closed, so on the Bohemian side, we had to take a steep path (be careful in wet conditions! There's hardly any foothold here) to reach the mill pond.
Along the path, the stream repeatedly emerges from the undergrowth and flows onto the next plateau.
