Peebles Clock Tower and Old Bridge

Highlight • Monument

Peebles is a gorgeous Scottish Borders market town on the banks of the River Tweed. It's popular with tourists, both for sightseeing and other activities, including fishing on the river, hiking on the nearby hills and mountain biking at the nearby trail centre of Glentress.

The town is also well known for its creative residents, hosting an annual art festival, as well as multiple galleries and museums to visit. Well worth a visit if you're in the Borderlands or for a day trip from Edinburgh.

Don't miss the impressive 15th-century stone bridge near the centre, once known as the main crossing of the River Tweed.

Gypsy Glen Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Frequently quoted as 'the best natural descent in the Tweed Valley', Gypsy Glen is certainly up there.

Not enormously steep, but rutted in places, loose and scrabbly in others, it's a high-speed, low consequence (well, relatively - this is mountain biking after all) blast from start to finish.

And when you can drag your eyes up from the trail, the views are simply stunning.

19.8 km

This is the point where the blue-rated Gypsy Glen MTB trail (a 14 mile/23km circular route from Glentress) splits briefly from the Cross Borders Drove Road bridleway for just over a kilometer.

Stay right for the CBDR, a blue rated trail, or left for the Gypsy Glen singletrack section, rated one step harder at red.

Jubilee Woods Forest Path

Highlight • Trail

Jubilee woods are tiny and people are walking their dogs. I'd avoid personally. Go to Cademuir Hill instead. Either via Haystoun or Bonnington Rd. Or go up Gypsy Glen. More trails up that way as you approach the back road to Innerleithen. Plus you can go back to Peebles via Cardrona and the cycle path.
