The dam was built between 1935 and 1938 and served to supply soft water to the Arnstadt, Neudietendorf and Erfurt train stations.

Old Flößgraben Trail

The old raft ditch used to be pitted by the upper Sieglitz pond and when enough wood was felled, it was flooded and the wood was transported down the valley.

August 24, 2024,☀️🌲⛰️Naturpark-Weg - Lütsche-Flößgraben💦👀🥾
Since the thermometer was supposed to climb above 30°C🌡️ today, I laced up my hiking boots very early 🥾 and drove to the higher elevations of the Thuringian Forest. Since the proximity to the water can't hurt and I haven't been to the Lütsche for a long time, I decided to hike the Lütsche-Flößgraben nature park trail. Contrary to the …

Beautiful circular hiking trail Lütsche - Flößgraben in ideal hiking weather with many highlights:
Sieglitzteich
High stone
Burnt stone
Carrying mountain hut.
Back at the Lütschetalsperre you can take a refreshing bath.

The restaurant at the campsite is currently closed. But there are different snack options.

Beautiful circular hiking trail marked from the campsite. Part forest roads, part natural paths. There are a few rocky steps to overcome on the high stone. Completely successful ;-)

Our hike leads for the most part along the former Lütsche raft ditch, which was used for rafting logs in the Duchy of Gotha from 1702 onwards.

We hike in the valley of the Grasigen Lütsche up to the Hohe Tanne and on to the Upper Sieglitzteich, which was created for the water supply for the rafting industry and is …

Actually, I should have called the tour "fifty shades of grey"...
Unfortunately, there weren't any wonderful views to be seen today, only thick fog... but this special light was absolutely something!

Swimmable Lütschestausee with a campsite 5km from Oberhof but no restaurants, so small, quiet and tranquil and free! Where else can you find that?! The hiking tour with the little highlights was also very entertaining and worthwhile. Some paths have been milled wide. Probably for winter sports.
Snacks in summer only Friday to Sunday.

The biodiversity here in the Thuringian Forest, e.g. mosses, mushrooms, ferns, ... is very large.
You discover a lot of beautiful things 😊
and can totally enjoy the peace and nature here 😉
