Robin Hood's Cave

Highlight • Cave

Robin Hood’s Cave is a fantastic little cave tucked into the landscape. Small and well-sheltered, legend has it that infamous outlaw Robin Hood took refuge here when he was on-the-run. To find the cave, you need to follow a rocky trail down the cliff face. Whilst this section is manageable, do take care. Once inside the cave, you will find it to be a lovely spot for a picnic or a flask of tea—especially in wintry weather.

Stanage Pole

Highlight • Monument

Stanage Pole is a landmark that denotes the border between Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. A wooden pole has stood here for hundreds of years and would have been useful for travellers on the old packhorse route, Long Causeway.

Whether on gravel or MTB, the riding around here is superb. Whichever way you head, you’re in for a treat and some epic views of the Peak District.

Redmires Reservoirs

Highlight • Structure

The three Redmires Reservoirs were built between 1833 & 1854 to provide clean drinking water to Sheffield. The construction was partly in response to a Cholera epidemic that devastated the city in 1832.
Today the reservoirs and surrounding paths are very popular with walkers and families. The middle reservoir is a nature reserve managed by the Sheffield Wildlife Trust.

Stanage Edge

Highlight • Natural Monument

Stanage Edge is an awesome gritstone escarpment standing high above Hathersage in the Peak District National Park.

It's a very popular climbing destination with hundreds of routes up the steep, slabby and sometimes overhanging cliffs. If you walk along the top, you're likely to meet climbers and if you walk along the rougher path below the cliff you can watch them.

The trail along the top of the edge is well made and offers a few miles of excellent walking with great views. There is a trig point at White Path Moss at the eastern end and another slightly higher at High Neb to the west.
